Adventures #2

Here are some more Adventures.  Clicking on the underlined photo titles will take you to the Geocaching.com page that describes the cache and gives you the coordinates to get there yourself.

Abandoned Railroad Tunnels

This hike took us through six abandoned railroad tunnels before we found the cache.  The trailhead was off of Highway 24 near Manitou Springs.  This picture is at the start point after a slight climb.  If you look closely you can see the first tunnel.

The Tunnels

The tunnels were excavated in the 1880's but the railroad was never built.  Some of the tunnels were really short ,like this one.

One Long Tunnel

The last tunnel before the cache was the longest.  This tunnel had a curve at the center and was almost pitch black.  We could see a little light at both ends.

Usual Suspects

This is Broderick, my usual hiking partner and fellow Geocacher.  And this is me at the cache.

Air Force Academy

This hike started at the Air Force Academy.  This hike was pretty tough.  Our objective was a 1942 crash site in the mountains with a cache nearby.

WWII Crash Site

The plane, a C49J, was flying from Pueblo to Denver when it went off course because of some bad weather. I don't know the full story but I do know that neither the pilot or co-pilot survived.  It is obvious they hit the mountain side very hard.

The Crash was great to find but we also had a Cache to look for.  Click here to see this caches hiding place.
